I loved this book. Andy has a great grasp on College and what a first year hall is all about. The details and ways that he portrays the character are accurate, deep, multidimensional and compelling. This book was recommended to me by a friend and I recommend it to anyone, college or not.

I was very skeptical about this book, being written by a college student and published by a small press. But through word of mouth, I heard about it and decided to pick it up. I was incredibly impressed. Andy brings you into the dorm and makes you feel like you’re right there with him, experiencing all of his joys and fears right with him. As a college student myself, I learned about some of the different issues that arise for other students and I also realized that many of the problems my friends and I face are similar to those faced by other students around the country. This is a truly inspirational story that made me feel good about myself and about the future. At times Andy tries a little too hard to be a writer as opposed to a story teller, but there are not many of those. The book is both sappy and preachy at times, but I’m being very nitpicky with these criticisms. Overall, this is a wonderful depiction of modern college life that everyone should read simply so they know what it’s like. I think this would make an excellent graduation gift for a recently graduated high school senior.

I will be a new Freshman at the actual “Ashford” University next year. I heard about this book and decided that I could probably get some good tips for next year. This book gave me more than that. It is absolutely incredible and even though a lot of the stories are unusual, it really gives the reader a good sense of what a Freshman year of college is like, especially at “Ashford” University. The only thing I didn’t like was knowning that there was no way Andy can be my RA next year!
